Three of the most notable events which I intend to report on this year are: our wedding anniversary, Mother's Day, and my birthday.
"Happy 10th Anniversary Darling"
My handsome husband,
Today we have been married for an entire decade. I can not believe how much life we have lived in ten years and it is amazing how fast it has gone. I could write for hours detailing the different adventures and experiences we have had together but for the sake of brevity, let me just tell you the two accomplishments of ours I am the most proud of: our four beautiful children and your becoming a doctor! I love you so much--for always, forever!
We had nearly convinced ourselves that we were too busy packing and that moving was too expensive as to afford a night out together, but when Carolee discovered this to be how we intended to spend our 10th anniversary, she usurped our agency, bravely took on watching our brood, and insisted we go out despite our lack of restaurant reservations and it being so last-minute that there was not even time to shower and freshen up.
So we left the kids running around barefoot and sweaty in the backyard for our wonderful friend to have to wrestle inside, wash dirt out from under their finger nails, figure out what to cook for dinner, then persuade them to eat it, change stinky diapers, and do the bed time battle while we headed for a peaceful and relaxing meal at Aoyama: Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar. Nothing fancy by most standards but it's a lot nicer dining than we have typically allowed ourselves in the past four years of med school.
Our appetizer: Chicken Maki
I didn't think my phone did the pretty platter justice so we took another pic with our awesome Cannon point-n-shoot which has a broken lens that leaves a blurry corner in all our photos.
At the beginning of the meal, Abram would not consent to bothering our server to take a picture of us together so we settled on snapping single shots of each other enjoying ourselves.
But by the end of the meal, (especially following the delicious dessert that I wanted to take a picture of because it was so exotic looking but we inhaled it too fast), his tummy was so satisfied and content as to fill him with an unusual surge of cooperation that he agreed to a couple photo. Yet, he couldn't quite pull off a real smile but believe me he was happy.
In fact, we were so happy that we were teetering on a state of temporary delirium which led to an uncharacteristic desire to go shoe shopping:
And so we continued pretending as if he was already being paid his salary and tried on countless shoes until after the store closed and even bought ourselves a few new pairs.
This was unlike any of our dates in years because...
We left our kids with a babysitter after literally making no preparations, had a nice, long and delicious dining experience--even lingering to eat dessert, spent money buying new apparel for ourselves, didn't run one errand or swing by the grocery store before going home, and were gone for nearly four hours. Anyone who knows us at all knows how monumental the preceding details are...
...and it was the best! Thanks for such a wonderful night and wonderful marriage. I love you Abram.
